The presence of bearded Bryan Sousa Eremita, a young Goan engineer studying in VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, made it easy for Chairman Shrinivas V. Dempo of the Vasantrao Dempo Education & Research Foundation to partially sponsor the costs of building and racing a fuel-efficient vehicle by Team Eco Titans at the Shell Eco Marathon.
The Shell Eco Marathon is one of Asia’s largest and most prestigious automotive events. Conducted by Shell Global as a part of the Make the Future Science Expo held every year, it is a platform for young and budding engineers to compete and build the most fuel efficient vehicle. The event witnesses participation from 120 teams and is divided into 2 major vehicle categories – Prototype and Urban Concept vehicles. These categories are further sub-divided based on vehicle powertrain – Internal combustion, Battery Electric and Hydrogen.
At this year’s event held in Singapore from 7th-11th March Team Eco Titans represented India and VIT University, Tamil Nadu, in the I.C prototype category and performed exceptionally at the event. These are its achievements:-
- 1st in India – prototype gasoline category
- 3rd in India – prototype
- 18th Overall – prototype gasoline
With the team’s recorded mileage of 250 mpg we have set the record for highest mileage in the I.C prototype category from India till date!
Addressing the team’s Vice Captain, bespectacled Sharang Kumar Kolathur, Chairman Shrinivas V Dempo, a Trustee of the Foundation, said, “The Goan presence in your Team in the person of Mr. Bryan Sousa Eremita, the aspect of higher education in your effort, and the noble aim of fuel efficiency and energy conservation that inspires the project to create a motor car for the next generation, are elements that resonate with us encouragingly, prompting us to declare support to your project by sponsoring part of its costs.”
And what a support this has turned out to be!
