‘The Navhind Times School Quiz’, an all Goa quiz competition for students up to standard ten was conducted by The Navhind Times for the fourth successive year. The 12 talukas of Goa for the purpose of the competition were divided into four zones – Salcete, Quepem, Canacona; Mormugao, Dharbandora, Sanguem; Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim; Tiswadi, Sattari, Ponda – and the entire event was held in three stages – Taluka, Zonal and State Finals.
More than 100 schools participated in the quiz. With each school being given the liberty to put up more than one team, the total team participation witnessed was almost 300. The first leg of the quiz was held on December 1 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao and the second leg on December 4 at Dempo House, Panaji. Eight teams made it through to the semi-finals and six teams fought hard to enter the finals.
The finals that were held on December 5 saw Yannick Furtado and Altamash Punjwany from Loyola High School Margao, walking away with the first prize followed by Eesha Tirodkar and Om Joshi of Saraswat Vidyalaya, Mapusa coming in second place.
At the valedictory function winners were awarded their trophies at the hands of the chief guest, Panaji MLA, Siddharth Kunkoliencar and Zonal Manager of Bank of India, Raj Gopalarao Das. First and second prize winners were gifted Firefox cycles while third prize winners were gifted watches from the Time Collection. Also present on the occasion were General Manager, The Navhind Times, Pramod Revankar and Deputy General Manager, The Navhind Times, Vijay Kalangutkar.
