The Founder’s Day of D.C.T’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science, Commerce and Arts, Cujira, was held on 4 th March 2017, to mark the 101 st birth anniversary of the Founder, Late Shri Vasantrao Dempo. The Chief Guest for the function was the Chairman of Dempo Charities Trust, Shri Shrinivas Dempo.
Speaking on the occasion the Chairman Shri. Shrinivas Dempo congratulated the recipients of the scholarships. He informed the gathering that the Founder set up the first educational institution for higher learning so that the society could benefit from it and also promoted freedom of speech by starting two newspapers. The Chairman in his speech urged teachers to conduct classes and have student interaction out of the classroom to let the children express themselves. He upheld family culture in any organization one works, where dedication, discipline, sincerity and hard work play a vital role. He appealed to parents to support their children in pursuing their dreams. He said the students should contribute to their parents and society by doing good, so that the less privileged section of the society can benefit.
Earlier the Chairman Trustee Shri. Yatish Dempo, Administrator, Shri Sunil Prabhudesai, Principal Mrs. Rupa Khope, Vice-Principal Mrs. Rekha Keni Gurrala and other dignitaries paid homage to the Founder by offering floral tributes.
On the occasion, the Chairman Shri. Shrinivas Dempo released the school magazine ‘Vasantdeep’. The Editor in chief of the magazine is Mrs. Usha Bhobe. The prize for the best cover design for the magazine was awarded to Mast. Navin Volvoikar of XI Science.
Scholarships were awarded by the Vasantrao Dempo Education and Research Foundation, to the students from the village of St. Cruz. Teachers, Mrs. Sumedha Kamat Desai and Shri. Chetan Kavlekar were felicitated for winning the state award for the best teacher for the year 2016 and state award for best Physical Education Teacher and also National level Best Physical Education Teacher Award instituted by Shikshak Vishad Parishad respectively. Mrs. Rekha Panvelkar was also felicitated for rendering help in academics. Outstanding Sports persons of the school, Miss Bhavana Chauhan from XI Science and Mast. Madan Desai of XII Science, were felicitated for their outstanding performance at national and international level.
Earlier, the Principal, Mrs. Rupa Khope delivered the welcome address. The Parish Priest of St. Cruz Church, Rev. Fr. Alexandre Pereira spoke on the occasion.
