Dempo SC’s wait is finally over. We are back in the I-League after a gap of 9 years. The Golden Eagles secured their return to the I-league with a comeback 3-1 win over Sudeva Delhi FC at Ella ground in Old Goa. Following on their impressive 3-1 win, It was an amazing comeback in the second-half despite conceding early on against Sudeva Delhi FC at their fortress, the Ella ground on Saturday.
The goal scorers for Dempo SC were Laximanrao Rane, Rahul Paswan and Shubham Rawat. Dempo SC finish second on the points table, while SC Bengaluru topped the table.
Sudeva Delhi took a shock early lead in the first half with Ramesh Chetri’s header connecting with a Seiminmang Manchong cross. Dempo, aiming for promotion, struggled to break down a resolute Sudeva defence in the opening period and found themselves trailing at half-time. However, the Goan side arose with renewed purpose after the break. Shubham Rawat’s shot in the 47th minute was initially blocked, but the rebound fell kindly for Laximanrao Rane, who slotted home the equaliser.
The momentum shifted decisively in Dempo’s favour when Thiyam Chingkheinganba conceded a penalty for a handball inside the box in the 58th minute. Rahul Paswan stepped up and coolly converted from the spot to give Dempo the lead. Saiesh Bagkar’s perfectly weighted lob in the 68th minute found Rawat, who displayed excellent composure to control the ball, feint a shot, and then fire it past the Sudeva goalkeeper to make the rest of the game a mere formality.
