Goa’s Woman Grandmaster and Dempo goodwill ambassador Bhakti Kulkarni settled for second-place finish in the International Woman Grandmaster Chess Festival at Erfurt, Germany on Saturday. The former Commonwealth Gold medallist finished half a point behind ultimate winner – Romanian WGM Mahela Sandu (7.5).
Bhakti, who was seeded 13th, scored stunning victories on final day to bag a seat in the next year’s “Young Master’s Tournament” to be organised by the German Chess Federation.
Bhakti now plays at Prague Summer Chess Festival where she had to miss the first round due to clashing of tournaments.
